To Swallow or not to Swallow: Does Semen Contain Nutrients?

You might have heard some people saying that swallowing jizz can be beneficial to one’s health and beauty.

This rumor has been passed on from generations, but does this “reward” hold any truth?

In fact, yes it is. Although gross and meant only for the vagina, semen actually does contain a few nutrients aside from its usual contents if ingested. But is it worth it to add to your daily needs? Let’s find out.

What is semen made of?

Semen is the whitish or grayish liquid that comes out of a man’s penis during orgasm. This becomes the trojan horse of a man’s sperm army when conquering the female’s eggs.

Every man usually produces 2ml to 5ml of semen per ejaculation. Although most believe that this only contains sperm cells, only part of it really does.

Seminal fluids are composed of different secretions from the man’s body. Though in very small amounts, these secretions make a safe and healthy transportation for the man’s little swimmers so they can reach their destination (a.k.a. uterus) without dying.

Semen’s Nutritional Facts

It’s easy to say that semen contains nutrients, but what are those nutrients exactly? Semen actually has:

  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
  • Zinc
  • Calories
  • Lactic Acid
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Sodium
  • Calcium
  • Fat
  • Protein

Though this breakdown may seem to say that semen is like your average multivitamins, a serving of up to 5ml won’t give such a significant change in a fully grown adult body.

Zinc, however, is the most prevalent nutrient in the semen and is the only nutrient that can affect the body when it is ingested. Though, it’s still better to get zinc from food or any other supplements.

Debunking some semen nutrient rumors

Semen have the same protein as egg whites. Semen does have some protein, but it will take at least half a glass of it to be compared to egg whites. Also, depending on what kind of bird who laid that egg, it really is inconsistent.

Semen contains as much vitamin C as oranges. Completely untrue. Although semen contains vitamin C, it will take a lot of that to at least be compared to a small orange.

Semen has nutrients that are good for the skin. Zinc is a good antioxidant and helps with skin aging. With semen having too much zinc for its volume, it can be a possibility.

Although semen really does have nutritional value, it’s amount is way too insignificant to affect the human body (with zinc as an exception). That means a person will need to swallow a lot of it before it can be used as a source of nutrients.

So, all in all, swallow at your own will and enjoyment.
