The causes of penile itching and how to treat it
We have a superstition that when your right palm itches, it means you’ll receive money soon. When the left palm itches, it’s an indication that you’ll lose money.
But what if it’s your member that gets itchy?
We have no superstition related to that! But such a condition may have an important or even alarming meaning, and it’s a condition you need to focus on. Here are the possible causes of penile itching and what to do when you feel such a thing.
Balanitis
This is a type of skin irritation that causes the head of the penis to swell. It can also be accompanied by redness and itching of the genitals.
In the case of other men, Balanitis can cause painful urination.
Candidiasis
Candidiasis is also called “thrush”. This is a type of fungal infection that can develop on the head of your penis.
Along with itching, there may also be a white discharge on the skin.
Eczema
Eczema is a condition that makes your skin dry and itchy. It is possible to have it on the genitals.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a condition that can cause itching and redness of the skin. The affected part of the body may also look scaly because of this.
Penile psoriasis can appear as red patches on the shaft or head of one’s penis.
What should you do?
There are many possible causes of penile itching. But there’s also a lot that can be done to lessen it or prevent further complications. Here are the things that can be done when your manhood experiences severe itching.
Apply a cold compress
You can apply a cold compress with an ice pack or cold, wet cloth on the itchy parts of your penis. It’s effective against irritation and should be done for five to ten minutes.
Use apple cider vinegar
This is an effective solution if psoriasis is the main cause of your penis’ itching. You just need to use some apple cider vinegar mixed with some water. When the liquid dries up, rinse the organ with water.
Avoid having sex
Having sex while experiencing penile itching can possibly lead to sexually-transmitted infections or STIs. It’s vital to temporarily abstain while your dick is itchy.
Consult a doctor
The most sensible thing to do when you experience severe itching down there is to visit a doctor. Of course, it would also be helpful to follow the recommendations of a health expert.
